Milestone birthday for Ollie the emu

BLACKPOOL ZOO CELEBRATED the 40th birthday of one of the world's oldest emus (Dromaius novaehollandiae) at the end of last month.

Resident Ollienioving to Blackpool Zoo when he was one year old. On March 20, he turned 40, which is an impressive milestone to reach for this species. The typical lifespan of an emu in the wild is 10-20 years, while in captivity they tend to live to around 35 years old - a few birds older than this have been reported previously.
