NATURAL ENGLAND is seeking to expand the Surrey Hills AONB into London. If Farthing Downs (above) in Coulsdon, south London, is included inside the protected perimeter, it will be the first time that any AONB has sought to conserve any part of the capital. The change will not alter who owns the land, but it might mean tougher planning laws and more protection for the landscape.
