Apache trout are officially designated as Arizona’s state fish, and are one of only two trout species native to the Grand Canyon State. Once near extinction, this beautiful trout has been restored to much of its historic range of the White Mountains in the east-central part of the state.
They were listed as endangered in March 1967, down-listed to threatened in July 1975 and recommended for Endangered Species Act (ESA) delisting in August 2022.
