Asus ROG Strix Scar 18

Laptops with 18in screens had seemingly fallen out of favour, but 2023 has seen a resurgence in the form factor. We reviewed the Razer Blade 18 last month (see issue 343, p52), Dell has released the Alienware m18, and now Asus brings us the ROG Strix Scar 18. With the Strix Scar at the top of Asus’s performance tree, it sets the bar for this burgeoning size category.

So far, Asus has released only one model of the Strix Scar 18 in the UK (you can buy ROG Strix 18 laptops with a lesser specification). This features Intel’s Core i9-13980HX processor, 32GB of DDR5-4800 RAM, 2TB of storage (via two 1TB drives in a RAID0 array) and Nvidia GeForce RTX 4090 graphics. We expect to see a variant with an RTX 4080 inside at some point this year, but for now that means one
