The Xiaomi 13 Pro is an impressive phone. It has the sort of hardware and software you expect from a high-end smartphone in 2023 – so the question isn’t “is this phone good?”, but rather “why should I buy it instead of a Google Pixel or a Samsung Galaxy?”

There are several possible answers: the Xiaomi offers not one but three 50MP main cameras, fast 120W charging and lengthy battery life. However, performance isn’t as balanced as its rivals, and while the £1,099 price is cheaper than the £1,249 Galaxy S23 Ultra (see issue 343, p54), it’s a lot more expensive than the £849 Google Pixel 7 Pro (see issue 339, p72).
