Photographers looking for something small, light and fast to bring on their travels should consider the 24.2-megapixel Canon EOS R8. This full-frame mirrorless camera uses the same image sensor and imaging pipeline as the Canon R6 Mark II, which we thought was one of the best cameras of last year.
The new camera’s name is a bit misleading, though, with the R8 nomenclature seemingly nestling between a pair of APS-C models, the R7 and R10, in Canon’s mirrorless lineup. However, where the “R8” model name isn’t misleading is in its affordability. With Canon and its single-named digital models, such as the R3, R5 and R6, the general pattern is that the higher the number, the lower the price. Coming in at just $1,499 body only ($1,699 in a kit with the new RF 24-50mm zoom lens), the R8 is one of Canon’s most reasonably priced full-frame cameras, costing more than only the EOS RP, which is getting a bit long in the tooth.
