Nothing for the RSPB to boast about
I was at Liverpool Street Station on Thursday, 16 March, when a poster-sized video on behalf of the RSPB above the concourse caught my attention. It showed a brown hare crouched in grass and every few seconds it pricked its ears and peeked about. The tag line, as I recall, was: “They’ll soon have no place to hide.”
The message appeared to be that a donation to the RSPB might somehow benefit the brown hare. It seems to me that this message is wrong on several levels. Hares, when last I looked, continue to be characterised as mammals rather than birds and therefore fall outside the charter of
