Reaping the whirlwind

The search for Barb had started with a phone call. Colin, a friend of a friend from Wales, had been on the lookout for a dachshund puppy that could be trained to help him search for injured deer. And he asked me if I could help.

After disappointing encounters with local dachshund breeders on social media (Tracking down, 1 March), I was contacted by a former training partner who told me he had what I was looking for. I had the pleasure of hosting Barb for a couple of months before Colin came to collect her, and I couldn’t have been more proud of her progress.
