Over the course of her prolific career, Mia Goth has worked with some of the world’s most renowned auteurs, including Lars von Trier, Claire Denis and Luca Guadagnino, before going on to redefine the “scream queen” moniker with her roles in Ti West’s X and Pearl. Her recent turn as the deranged Gabi in Brandon Cronenberg’s twisted, hedonistic nightmare, Infinity Pool, sees the actor going full-on savage mode.
Goth: For every role I approach, the process is quite unique and quite similar at the same time. The work that’s required and the prep that’s necessary before you get to set is quite similar regardless of the film or the character. There’s an ‘acting ideas’ person that I speak with regularly in the couple of months leading up to a shoot. We discuss ideas and come up with substitutes where necessary. That and you’re having to portray someone who’s really quite lighthearted on the surface – when you start digging deep into the character, there’s a lot of internal conflict that you come across. Regardless if it’s a romantic comedy or if it’s something much more extreme like , the process of creating a complex inner world ends up being quite similar.
