LETTER OF THE WEEK
Toothsome memory of a simpler time
I was holding forth in the pub the other night on the subject of clay pigeon shooting, when a happy memory came back to me. As a member of the Godalming Gun Club in what must have been the early 1980s, I remember having gone on a ‘skeets and booze cruise’ across the Channel.
Having taken a coach to Dover and handed over our shotguns to the smiling customs officials, we all boarded the cross-Channel ferry. Once on board, our guns were returned to us one at a time and we took part in a skeet-shooting competition off the back of the boat, with two clays being put up at a time.
