Recognised by the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as the first rock and roll song ever recorded, Ike Turner and his band, credited as Jackie Brenston & His Delta Cats, record Rocket 88 (after the Oldsmobile car of the same name). The track is produced by Sam Phillips (founder of Sun Studio) and sets the template for rock and roll.

Elvis Presley signs Colonelreleases the single and stars in in his first film acting role, cementing him as the new icon of rock and roll. He also records an impromptu session with Johnny Cash, Jerry Lee Lewis and Carl Perkins, nicknamed the Million Dollar Quartet.
