Infant GORD
In a French study of gastro-oesophageal reflux disease (GORD) in babies, incidents happened six times a day in those under six months old. Gradually, there was a significant decrease in the number of cases.
Parental smoking was the most important factor worsening symptoms. Breastfeeding was associated with less reflux and a shorter time to recovery, compared to formula feeding.
PPI drugs, such as omeprazole, are often used, but researchers acknowledged these had limited effect on symptoms. Notably they stressed the importance of the way parents soothe the distress of their child.
