“I love the way colours, fabrics and textures can be used to create a narrative in fashion and interiors.”
I always knew I wanted to work in fashion, that was the dream. I wasn’t entirely sure how to make is happen, but I got a job at Sportsgirl and went from there. Part of my role was helping to set up the window displays, and I realised that I absolutely loved the styling aspect.
I wrote to dozens of magazines looking for. I started off as an office assistant doing absolutely everything: fetching coffee, sweeping up, organising drawers – I didn’t care, my foot was in the door. I slowly worked my way up and then I had the opportunity to move to London, where I joined as the fashion office coordinator. This was the ’80s and an incredibly exciting time in fashion magazines, working with legends such as Grace Coddington, Liz Tilberis and Lucinda Chambers. After several years, I came home and returned to as its fashion director and then the style director. I suppose that was a natural progression into what I do now.
