Roger England opted for something completely R different when he bought his MG Magnette in 2020. “I had a Nissan 350Z but felt it was devoid of personality and quite uninvolving,” said Roger. “So I decided to revert to something from a different era of driving, with more character. My first girlfriend’s father had a Magnette and I can still recall how much it impressed me. I thought I should find a good one for myself.

“Whereas it is always nice to buy a nice honest car however, this one was not. It was sold as a totally rust-free car and I must admit it did look the part. It took about three weeks, though, before I realised that it had had a cosmetic facelift. The carpets were in need of replacement and, when I removed them, I saw there was a rather rough patch in the floor and the gearbox cover appeared ruptured where someone had simply hacked away at it.
