HOW MANY MGS HAVE BEEN SOLD IN 100 YEARS?

In this the first year in which we mark MG’s centenary, it’s fascinating to speculate how many MGs have been sold in ‘Queen’s Jubilee Special’, which in recent years has sat in MG Motors’ Piccadilly showroom, was announced in April 2002). Looking at subsequent sales figures, we know that around 115,000 cars were sold in the period 2002-2005 (therefore, with some overlap with the Jubilee car), and then in the NAC/SAIC period from 2007 to the end of 2022, we estimate global sales (including places like India and Thailand) to be around 2.76 million. Consequently by our reckoning, that gives an overall total to date, for all MGs from 1923 to the end of 2022, of roughly 4.38 million. In July 2022, SAIC celebrated its ‘one millionth export MG’, a blue MG ZS which rolled off the line at SAIC Motor’s Zhengzhou plant in Henan province on Wednesday July 13th 2022.
