BETWEEN FRIENDS
It’s easy to make friends with Surry Hill’s new Bar Copains. A collaboration between Nathan Sasi (Leigh Street Wine Room) and Morgan McGlone (Belles Hot Chicken), the corner wine bar is named after the French word for ‘friends’. Bar Copains serves up European-style snacks designed for sharing with your pals, alongside rare and interesting wines from the duo’s personal collection.

Merrick’s SHOUT
on his latest drinks poor man’s Sidecar. It’ll get you there, but it won’t be a smooth ride. However, this one was stunning. Refreshing, but also rich, opulent and complex. I was so intrigued, I ordered a straight shot of Cognac to compare. Although strong on fumes and heat, it was richly fruited and aromatic. I was like, ‘Ahhhh, now I get why rich people dig this’. Cognac can get very expensive very quickly, but personally I recommend Camus. Not because I know much about Cognac, but because I’m a fan of the author. Or is he a painter? Geez, I’m glad I’m not driving the Sidecar home.
