We live in exciting times, not just because of how we are seeing the supernaked class develop, and how superbikes are still moving forward as the pinnacle of technology and power, as well as other gems popping up, like ‘GT’ bikes for covering long distances really, really fast. However, until recently there hasn't been much on offer for the person who doesn't want all the bells and whistles, or a million horsepower, or who has the thick end of £20k to spend on a toy. Thankfully, for all our sakes, our beloved motorcycle industry has spotted this, and we've seen a number of affordable but still exciting bikes show up in recent years which are, arguably, much more important than any headlinegrabbing 200bhp superbike.

Not all heroes wear wings, and after a summer of gorging on ‘ultimate’ used sportsbikes, all the supernaked bikes, and even a hardcore lightweight KTM Super Duke RR and Ducati Panigale V4 SP2,1 wanted to check back in with the affordable end of the market to see if there's any point in the manufacturers making their weapons-grade bikes.
