Most of those shots were taken from some form of unstable rest or even standing without any support, and not from a bench or prone position. Not knowing or understanding it then, but the time behind the air rifle and .22 was most likely the best preparation I could have had for my first hunt with my dad in the Vosburg area in the Northern Cape at age 11. We did that once or twice a year for the rest of my schooling years.
Fast forward about 30 years. I cringe when I see a dad at theand the risk that he might never return to the veld to hunt or shoot again. Living in Cape Town, my children do not have the luxury I had of spending their weekends on farms where they could shoot and play with their air rifles like I did.
