I enjoy painting snow scenes and await the winter months with excitement and anticipation. A covering of snow in conjunction with the disappearance of leaves on hedgerows and trees, reveals a landscape in its basic and sometimes most dramatic form. My aim has always been to try to capture mood, atmosphere and fleeting light effects in nature. I pay particular attention to the importance of sound composition, tone and colour, generally in that order.
In winter, the pure, more strident colours of summer and autumn, become a thing of the past and soft, grey purples, grey blues and grey browns dominate the scene.
