Using traditional techniques Mascaró has been making footwear on the beautiful Spanish island of Menorca for over 100 years. When in 2005, third-generation descendant Ursula Mascaró and her then husband, David Bell, launched Pretty Ballerinas under the family umbrella, the classic ballerina slippers became an instant hit.
The handcrafted flats have since been worn by Angelina Jolie, Claudia Schiffer, Elle Macpherson, Olivia Palermo (who starred in a campaign in 2018) and Kate Moss, who, during one summer in the early 2000s, was seldom seen without a pair.
For SS23 the family company invited Amelia Windsor (often dubbed the most fashionable royal) to the Menorcan town of Ferreries, where Mascaró was founded, to partner on a sustainable footwear collection, named Mel x Pretty Ballerinas.
