In his early 20s, my father belonged to a camping and hiking club and he would often regale us with stories of the adventures he and his friends went on. These tales changed depending on who joined on any particular weekend excursion, which would often happen at the drop of a hat with little to no real preparation, but the one constant was the food.
Canned food was always on the table, with the highlight usually being canned spaghetti and meatballs in tomato sauce.
