Australian Rally Racing has gone through a bit of a lean period since the last edition of the Australasian Safari was held in 2014. The good news is, Australian rally racing seems to be on the up again with the Sunraysia Safari Cross Country Rally gaining momentum and the Condo 750 firing back into life this year. This is great to see as I am one of the lucky riders who got to race Australian rallies during its peak from 2005-2011. Back then the Australasian Safari was the pinnacle of our national rally racing calendar and 2007 was the stand out year to me, as we raced for eight days, covering close to 8000 kilometres starting at Kununurra, WA and finishing in Perth, WA.
As Dakar-spec. rally bikes and parts where much harder to obtain back then compared to now, the majority of the race bikes were custom modified enduro models. I was on the GHR Honda team so my bike was a CRF450X littered with custom
