I remember when the XR650 came to Australia in 2000 because I had one for six months. That was five months too long. Honda’s biggest-ever XR wasn’t just mashed potato on wheels, it was a pig to start and awkward on tight trails. In the end these traits proved too much for this little duck. Me and the potato parted company after I stalled it in a corner during an AMCROSS race and kicked myself into a purple rage. That I had a tooth-ache at the time only added to the pathetic spectacle.
