TRAILBLAZERS

DR NIKKI STAMP

“I have met so many people who have lived such interesting lives and honestly, I never stop being amazed by what incredible stories people have,” cardiothoracic surgeon Stamp told unepiece.com. “The patients and their stories really make doing this job entirely worthwhile and they teach me so much every day.” Stamp, who is one of only 13 female heart surgeons in Australia, is also a TV presenter, and has appeared as a health expert on various radio and TV shows, plus in print media talking healthy lifestyles and women working in surgery. Having performed many heart transplants, the author of memoir Scrubbed has researched the phenomenon Takotsubo Cardiomyopathy, which is known as broken heart syndrome. “I do two or three operations a day,” Stamp told WHO. “It’s a privilege.”
