Letter of the week
Here’s to you, Cubitt and Barts
WHAT a relief to learn that our dogs’ names are not eccentric, as family and friends tell us, but simply ‘imaginative’ (‘What’s in a puppy’s name’, February 8)! We like ours to have titles, or reflect interests in history, cricket and architecture.
Our first, a Welsh springer, was Bartholomew (Barts for short, so also known as the baronet). Our next were both Border terriers: Peebles (a famous 1930s cricketer) and Minto (the best known Lord Minto was Viceroy of India). Our latest puppy, a miniature dachshund, is called Cubitt, after the developer of Belgravia.
