Cate Blanchett is the maestro

I’m scrolling through Instagram when a post stops me in my tracks. It’s on cult account @dykeblanchett, a treasure trove of Cate Blanchett content celebrating the A-lister’s enduring sapphic allure. Ever since she played the titular role of Carol in Todd Haynes’ 2015 cinematic masterpiece, she has been a firm favourite among our community. And, you’ll no doubt be pleased to hear, she’s playing gay again in Todd Field’s psychological drama, Tár. The meme I’m looking at is created from a screencap of that very film. Cate is devastatingly gorgeous, as per usual, wearing trousers, a crisp button-down and a jumper slung casually over her shoulders. She lounges in a chair with one leg up and bent at the knee, an arm outstretched leisurely to her side, a pose the caption describes as “gay sitTM: hard mode”. The text reads: “If you look up ‘big dyke energy’ in the dictionary you’ll find this photo of Cate Blanchett as Lydia Tár.”
