When a little-known actress called Helen Mirren signed up to star in a movie opposite Harrison Ford in 1986, she tried not to let on she was quaking in her shoes.
“He was an enormous movie star,” recalls Dame Helen, 77. “He’d already done Star Wars and the first two Indiana Jones movies. I was a theatre actress out of London and nobody had heard of me. I was intimidated. Very, very intimidated…”
The movie the pair appeared in about a couple – played by Harrison and Helen – who leave the US with their children for a simpler life in the jungles of Central America, only to find their lives spiralling out of control.
