In recent years International Women’s Day, on 8 March, has been marked by musical events celebrating female composers and performers. As an oldish, fogeyish white male – the type that’s ruled the classical music roost for centuries – I suppose I should live up to my caricature and dismiss the whole thing with a few supercilious barbs. Instead, I rejoice.
