WRATH OF THE SNAKE

In the southern Indian state of Kerala, arranged marriages are not uncommon.

And for Uthra and Sooraj Kumar, this is exactly how they met.

In 2018 a wedding broker paired the wealthy and beautiful Uthra, 25, with the poorer, boy-next-door Sooraj, now 31.

And with Uthra living with a learning difficulty, her parents hoped that Suraj would be the man to protect and keep their daughter safe.

Her dowry was a decadent one.

And Sooraj was gifted roughly £16,000 in cash, a brand-new Suzuki and gold.

They also paid him 8,000 rupees (around £80) a month extra to look after Uthra.
