A FLOCK OF SHEEP

■ Regular readers of will know we are especially fond of Jeff Minter’s 1984 shmup and so we were intrigued. “I had this idea of lumping sprites together, so they’d be on top of each other, and that led to this idea of rounding up sheep lost in space,” he recalls. “Your spaceship looked like a big Stetson hat, flying around and herding these sheep. I went to a computer show that year and I often used to chat to Jeff Minter when I saw him. He was launching a new game at that show called… ! I couldn’t believe it. That was the name I had for my game! I mean, [who] comes up with an abstract name like ?!” [Probably the entire team - Ed]. Though Chris’ game was unfinished, he thinks he still has the development disk somewhere in his attic. If he ever hears a baa from up there, he’s promised we’ll be the first to know.
