■ Awhite -firing clay – earthenware or stoneware (if you want to decorate in the same way as here, otherwise clay colour matters less)
■ Rolling pin, 5mm-thick roller guides, plastic sheet, sharp knife
■ 30cm- diameter circle. A large protractor is useful, but you can make a card template as an alternative
■ General tools and ribs for finishing
■ Underglaze rice paper decals (optional)
■ Transparent glaze
Before you begin:
This cake stand is designed for a large cake. You can reduce the diameter of yours if you want to make it smaller. We suggest you work out a size from the cake pans you usually use, adding a few extra centimetres to allow for clay shrinkage.
