Hassle-free harvests

I look forward to March all winter, when my windowsills and polytunnel can start to fill with the green energy of germinating seedlings.

Two years ago we moved from the cosy climes of a southern plot to an exposed, soggy hillside in Yorkshire. Winters are harsh and certainly icier, shortening our growing season, but by less than expected, largely due to climate change.

I love our plot, but I’m not ruled by it. Perfect paths and weed-free soil aren’t my aim. Instead I fill it with organic veg to outgrow any unwanted plants, reducing weeding and keeping our plates full. To do this in a few hours each week,
