Evangeline Lilly

OWADAYS, IF YOU’RE CAST IN A MARVEL FILM, IT’S LIKE WINNING THE lottery. But it didn’t start that way for Evangeline Lilly, who stars alongside Paul Rudd in (February 17). “I was late to the Marvel game because I wasn’t into superhero movies.” But franchise, Lilly’s Hope Van Dyne a.k.a. Wasp faces many changes: she’s in love with Rudd’s Scott Lang; the return of her mother, Janet (Michelle Pfeiffer) and dealing with an issue with her father, Dr. Hank Pym (Michael Douglas). Lilly says Hope is “so tough and cool, but then there’s this softness that comes through.” Lilly credits Marvel’s ability to mix a story about superheroes with “relevant, current political themes.” They’re seemingly able to “always feel like they’re just slightly ahead of the curve in that way. And the only way you can be on the pulse in Hollywood is if you’re ahead.” And, of course, “they’re doing it with such awareness that these are adults in tights.”
