The Sri Lankan army defeated (2022), developed with Annika Kuhlmann, which situates the viewer amid mirrored screens and projections as an AI-generated narrative interweaves archival footage of guerilla fighters with avatar-voiced reflections on digital culture. Kulendran Thomas also grappled with meanings of contemporary art and human rights in the post-civil war era in the video installation (2019), which stars algorithmically synthesized characters including a renowned Sri Lankan painter and a young Tamil artist, and related series of AI-generated paintings and sculptures.
