1 These look very similar to Larrivée’s 40 Series acoustics…
Well spotted! The only real difference in terms of spec is the full gloss finish and there’s a hike in the retail price, too. Also, the Legacy 44 Series has to be specially ordered from Larrivée.
2 No pickups onboard?
All models can be ordered with pickups factory fitted. Not every player will want or need a pickup installed in their acoustic – while others might have a favourite make that isn’t on offer from Larrivée.
3 Does the high-gloss finish make any tonal difference?
There’s been controversy about this for years. Of course, it depends on what type of gloss finish we’re talking about as there are a few options available. We’ve had varied experiences with gloss or satin finishes and have concluded the difference is more to do with how the guitar feels in the hand rather than with the tone. Results vary, though.
