TIP OF THE FORTNIGHT

Add colours to cells that have bold text

Issue 649’s tip (page 47) for identifying which Excel cells contain bold text will prove useful to some people, but I like to go a step further by adding colour to these bold cells. The instructions are similar to those you gave.

First, select your cells then press Ctrl+F to open the ‘Find and Replace’ box. Click the Format dropdown menu and select Choose Format From Cell. Move the dropper icon that appears to a cell containing bold text then click it. You’ll notice that ‘Preview’ next to the Format menu will turn bold ( in our screenshot). Now click the Replace tab and at the right of ‘Replace with’ click Format followed by the Fill tab. Now select any. Finally, click Replace All and your chosen colour will be applied to every cell that contains bold text .
