We need phone lines during power cuts

In Issue 648’s Cover Feature (‘Ditch Your Landline’), I think you skip over the problem of power cuts far too quickly. Here in rural Scotland our last power cut lasted 48 hours. After Storm Arwen in November 2021 we were without power for four days. A one-hour battery pack is simply not going to cover that kind of situation

During extended power cuts we rely on good old copper lines for emergency calls. We also receive regular updates from the power company as to the state of repairs and possible restoration of electricity.

For older folk especially, this facility during extended outages is vital. Openreach seems to have no answer to this problem.
