Detect which online articles were written by AI

The new artificial intelligence (AI) tool ChatGPT has taken the web by storm and, along with other AI models, is already being used by some sites as an easy way to generate content – we’ve even tried it ourselves in this issue’s Easy When You Know How column (see page 74).

If you’re intrigued to know whether a news story, blog post or online article was written by a human or an AI bot, you can use Detect GPT () to find out. This extension analyses the content of the page you are viewing to identify if the text has been generated using the GPT (Generative Pre-trained Transformer) language model. Click the toolbar button to view its findings and discover how confident – as a percentage (see screenshot below left) – Detect GPT is that the text was written by a human or generated using AI.
