Tweak Chrome to load web pages faster
Chrome 103, which was released at the end of June, introduced a new type of ‘prerendering’ technology. This enables the browser to load web pages more quickly by downloading certain design elements in advance. Previously, prerendering required a lot of system memory and also posed a security risk because it preloaded potentially dangerous JavaScript. Both these problems have been fixed in the new version but, as is often the case with Chrome, faster prerendering is currently an ‘experimental’ feature that’s disabled by default.
To activate it in Chrome 103 or 104 (due early August), type chrome:flags into the browser’s address bar and press Enter to access the Experiments page. in our screenshot below left) and you should find three matches – Prerender2, ‘Omnibox trigger for Prerender2’ and ‘Prerender2 search suggestions’. Click the dropdown menus next to each of these entries and select Enabled , then click Relaunch .
