it goes without saying that clean air is vital for human health. Air pollution is a major factor in serious illnesses ranging from heart disease and lung cancer to miscarriages and even mental illness. The State of the Global Air 2020 report indicated that ambient air pollution was responsible for around 5000 premature deaths in Kenya during 2019 alone, while the 2017 national economic survey estimated that 19.9 million Kenyans suffer from respiratory ailments that are exacerbated by poor air quality. Vehicle emissions are one of the worst sources of pollution, containing a potent cocktail of exhaust fumes and particulates that are harmful to both human health and the environment — especially those produced by diesel or older vehicles.
