Your personal favourite is probably the Maxi Megane Kit Car. How couldn’t it be if you grew up in the late 1990s and cherish memories of rallying when Tapio Laukkanen and Martin Rowe were taming it to considerable success on these shores? But if your response to the question ‘what’s your favourite Renault rally car?’ is the 5 Maxi Turbo, Clio Maxi or Clio S1600, it would be hard to construct a strong argument against you either.
But unfortunately, none of these famous Renaults can be considered in any way modern. Renault hopes to change that with the launch of its all-new Clio Rally3. Built to complement the front-wheel-drive Rally4 and Rally5 cars, already part of Renault’s range, the creation of this new Clio is good news for Renault – or rather Alpine which operates Renault’s rallying programme – but perhaps more so for the rest of rallying as the FIA’s third tier finally has a car to match M-Sport Poland’s Ford Fiesta
