Boat angling in Wales is one of the great secrets of UK sea angling – its apparent to those who fish regularly in the principality but because it’s often a long way from anywhere many people just don’t get a chance to sample it. Having been resident in Wales many years ago, and been fishing recently in both North and South Wales I can testify to the excellent nature and variety of opportunities and experiences.
The coastline is many and varied: from the south coast round to west Wales and up to Anglesey the geography is spectacular, sometimes rugged and certainly holds a wide variety of species.
The Bristol Channel is full of excellent ray, smoothhound and spurdog fishing. The shark fishing in west Wales is legendary and there are now bluefin tuna regularly appearing in the Irish Sea. Although there aren’t the number of wrecks in the Irish Sea or Bristol Channel that there are in the English Channel, the many reefs, rock outcrops and gulleys provide plenty of cover for pollack, bass and other species.
In North Wales the smoothhound and tope fishing is excellent as is the bass fishing
