Cyclist: You founded Technogym in the early 1980s (your early 20s!). What was your favourite way to stay in shape then, and how has that evolved over time?

Nerio Alessandri: In the 80s, the fitness industry was not sophisticated. The first gyms were all mainly dedicated to bodybuilding. I’ve always been passionate about sports, so I used to go the gym. And I had the idea of applying my design skills to this sector to make it interesting for everyone and create unique equipment.

Did you ever imagine virtual cycling and virtual spin classes would take off as they have?
