JEEP CJ-3A BRAKE PARTS
Q: I am having trouble finding front wheel cylinders, a master cylinder, and brake hoses for my 1952 Willys CJ-3A. I was able to get the brake shoes relined at a local machine shop and I can make do with the original return springs if necessary. Thanks for offering this locating service.

A: You can obtain a master cylinder and wheel’58 Packard Clippers, and most 1946-’62 Studebaker cars and trucks. The front wheel cylinders (Wagner F7379) fit both front wheels on 1946-’58 Jeep CJ-2As, CJ-3As and CJ-3Bs. The brake hoses need a little more research as you have both inner and outer hoses joined by a short S-shaped steel brake line that goes through the frame. The hoses are 7-inches from the frame to the S and 12.25-inches from the frame to the distribution tee. These are no longer listed in that Wagner vintage catalog, but we did find them available from Kaiser Willys Auto Supply. Their part number for the 7-inch hose is 800953, while the longer hose is 800896. Kaiser-Willys also sells the short steel connection, which can be difficult to duplicate. They offer a kit that contains all four front hoses and the S-lines under part number 800950. In addition to the hoses, Kaiser-Willys lists the wheel cylinders (part number A1484) and a new master cylinder (part number 805223). If you want to upgrade your system to a dual-circuit master cylinder, they also show a conversion kit (part number 805223-CJDUAL). The kit contains the master with a pushrod, a mounting bracket, and all of the necessary hardware.
