Mecum Auctions, Kansas City

There’s never truly a “last call,” or the final opportunity to bid-and-win a collectible vehicle, in the auction industry. Perhaps at an individual sale, yes, but there’s always another sale, somewhere, next month. However, if we’re talking last call for the calendar year, then Mecum Auctions has that honor with its Kansas City, Missouri, sale. The Wisconsin-based company set up shop one final time during 2022 at the Kansas City Convention Center for three days of gavel action on December 1-3. Volume is still the name of the game for Mecum, though at this sale the catalog held just 701 vehicles of all types, and the outcome was a little different than some of the other 2022 events.

To that point, topping the Kansas City sales chart was a 2022 Mercedes-Benz AMG SL63 Roadster that was showing just 130 miles; it brought $253,000 (all listed sale prices within this report include a buyer’s premium). Coming home second overall was the top-selling domestic muscle car: a 2018 Dodge Challenger SRT Demon. It had travelled just 1,055 miles and achieved $167,750. Third was a 17-mile 2022 Ford Shelby GT500 Heritage Edition that realized $159,500. Seeing a trend? Amazingly, six of the top 10 sellers were near-new, low mileage
