When Danielle and Liam O’Meara first renovated their home in 2017, it was born from sheer necessity. The husband and wife, who both work as media professionals, bought the California bungalow in Sydney’s inner west sight unseen, jumping on the sale while travelling overseas. “It was like a murder scene!” Danielle exclaims, describing holes in the floor, crumbling walls and an overall feeling of gloom due to decades of neglect.

Once they returned, the couple stripped back the mess, opened up the layout and extended the kitchen and dining space into the backyard, all with help from family and a handful of trades. Original elements
