There’s just no arguing with a quote that hardcore motorsports enthusiast and TV celebrity Grant Denyer makes when describing those brief chances he gets to escape the spotlight by climbing aboard an adventure bike: “I’ve always said there’s something cleansing about getting dirty,” the Gold Logie winner says.
Denyer’s passion for dirtbike riding and pushing himself to his boundaries is his way of de-stressing from the high-pressure world of live TV.
“I like the fact that you have no room to think about anything else on a dirtbike — because your safety depends on it,” Denyer says. “I can forget about all the pretentiousness and make-believe of TV and put myself in a real situation.”
The real situation in this case was an unsupported double Simpson Desert motorcycle crossing with minimal sand riding experience to fall back on. Did someone say “in at the deep end”?
