Don't be afraid of the dark

One important area where nearly all beginners and even some more experienced painters could easily improve the look oi their work would be to strengthen the effects of (lights and darks). , , (below) is an oil sketch I made in 2017. I look at it now with the knowledge that it could have been easily improved. Even as just a sketch, it could be enhanced simply by strengthening the contrast between the lights and darks. Sometimes working in bright sunlight makes judging!
