Prune out reverted shoots

Look for plain green shoots growing on evergreen variegated plants. This physical change of colour is known as reversion and some shrubs – such as elaeagnus, euonymus, pittosporum and privet – are more prone to it than others.

The only solution is to use secateurs to cut out the green shoots before they take over. Reverted shoots tend to be much more vigorous than the variegated ones due to the increased amount of green chlorophyll used for growth that they have in their leaves.
