Towards the end of 2022 it appeared that a concerted effort was being made in the media to identify vehicles as being incompatible with beaches. It's not a simple situation as there are many kilometres of beaches around New Zealand where the use of vehicles is hardly noticed, although there are other beaches where vehicle use may, and sometimes does, create safety problems with other beach-goers. It's largely relative to the immediate population density.
